Learn exactly how to roll a joint.
Rolling a joint can be hard! While it isn’t an exact science, there are a few things you can do to keep your joint from falling apart. If you’re looking to get down the basics, this guide about how to roll a joint is for you.
Step 1: Grind Your Weed
First, grab your herb and get your grinder cranking. Use only the flower – no seeds or stems. Wondering how to grind weed without a grinder? There a few options available to you.
- Mince your weed with a kitchen knife
- Use a food processor
- If the flower is dry enough, you can break it up in your hands
Once your flower is ground, move on to step 2.
Step 2: Make a Filter (Optional)
This step is totally optional. The benefits of a filter include not burning your lips or getting tiny pieces of herb stuck in your teeth. Plus, a filter adds some structure to your joint. The easiest way to make a filter is to roll a small piece of firm paper in a spiral to form a cylinder. You’ll then stick it at one end of the joint.
Step 3: Fill Your Joint with Herb
Now that your flower is finely ground and you’ve got your filter ready to go, it’s time to start rolling.
First, get your rolling paper. Notice there is a crease down the middle. This is where you’re going to concentrate your bud. Next, hold the paper at one end and sprinkle your weed up and down the crease. If you’re using a filter, rest it at one end of the paper while you fill the rest evenly.
Step 4: Pack the Joint
Once your bud is spread across the rolling paper, begin to shape your masterpiece. Start by pinching the paper between your fingertips and rolling the contents back and forth so the weed takes the shape of the paper. This will make rolling easier because the weed will be evenly distributed.
Step 5: Roll it Up
Begin with your fingers on the back of the joint and your thumbs in front to start rolling. Slowly roll the paper back and forth with your thumbs and pointer, and middle fingers. Try to get all the bud evened out across the whole joint. You’ll need to tuck the paper from the front on top of the bud and under the back side of the paper. Finally, give your joint a good lick and close it up.
Step 6: Finish
Often, you’ll find the end of the joint a bit loose. Don’t worry too much about that. Pack it the best you can, remember you’re likely have more bud concentrated on your greens hit. To pack, you can use a number of objects such as pens, pencils or even the tip of a string from your hoodie.
Step 7: Spark and Enjoy
That’s it, now enjoy. If you’re rolling a bunch at once, try folding or twisting the end of the paper for better storage. And, remember, practice make perfect. Don’t worry if you have to try a few times before you get it right.
